  • Common name: Brazilian Red Tarantula
  • Type: Terrestrial
  • Adult Size: 17cm

The Brazilian Red Tarantula (Nhandu carapoensis) is a striking terrestrial tarantula from Brazil, known for its rich reddish-brown colouring, dense covering of hairs and impressive size. As it matures, its warm red and copper tones become particularly prominent, making it an attractive addition to a tarantula collection.

This species is generally a terrestrial, opportunistic burrower and will appreciate a suitable depth of substrate to allow natural digging and hiding behaviour. It is a hardy species when provided with the correct temperature, humidity, ventilation and access to fresh water.

Like many New World tarantulas, Nhandu carapoensis can be defensive when disturbed and possesses urticating hairs, so it is best suited to observation rather than regular handling.

Care Level: Intermediate
Type: Terrestrial / Opportunistic Burrower
Origin: Brazil
Adult Size: Approximately 15–18 cm leg span
Temperament: Can be defensive
Diet: Appropriately sized live insects

At Ultimate Exotics, we recommend keeping this species in a secure, well-ventilated enclosure with appropriate substrate, a suitable hide and constant access to fresh drinking water.
